CASE STUDY

Creating multiple Tableau dashboards with little time and limited resources

The Challenge

The client had a hard deadline to build and deploy an external reporting application via tableau server to deliver timely, actionable insights and system-wide visibility of data to clients, both historical and real-time reporting.

There was a lack of resources to produce dashboard content and understand scalability as those initially targeted were needed to support current legacy reporting and data collection parallel with this new build.

There was also a need to bridge product management and development to ensure efficiency and timely support for production. Dashboards needed to be built in both interactive and static versions and must be scalable across numerous clients with different data connections for security purposes.

The Conflict?

The organization's proprietary solutions create a tremendous amount of data, and the current reporting contains data silos and lags in time to consumption so clients can make real-time decisions.

The organization required a consistent way to consume data to scale reporting capabilities  (the previous solution was different for almost every customer) and define what to measure and how it will be measured while also providing the opportunity for clients to make customizations as needed.

The Solution

In-depth discovery sessions with the product management, development, and UI design team to understand their current state of reporting and how to best design and implement future-state systems based on reporting requirements.

Develop a standard content package comprised of interactive dashboards and static real-time reports optimized for both analysts and business users.

Goals

The initial project goal was a 6-month hard deadline to produce dashboards to roll out to initial testing clients via tableau server.

The Result

The results include increased accountability, a dramatic reduction in operating costs, and an increase in overall system performance.

Reduces siloed decision making by bringing data together to provide a holistic view.

Self-service reporting with structured easily accessible data, allows analysts can to quickly and easily conduct ad-hoc analyses beyond the standard content provided.

Necessary parties have close to real-time data to make actionable decisions with greater precision.

Eliminates the need for time-consuming onsite implementation and maintenance by the client as the tableau server is cloud-hosted and maintained.
